Picea omorika 'Bruns' Serbian spruce

'Bruns' is slow growing, narrowly upright, and uniform with bicolor foliage.

Picea omorika (Serbian spruce) and Oriental spruce (Picea orientalis) are lesser known relatives of the widely planted (overused?) Norway spruce.
Richard L. Bitner in his "Conifers for Gardens" lists orientalis and omorika as superior to its European cousin. Michael Dirr's "Manual of Woody Landscape Plants" praises both as thriving in Louisville and as preferable to other spruces available in the Midwest.
Expect faster growth from Norway spruce but more die back and a loss of form with age.
Serbian spruce (50' x 20') is a limestone and pollution tolerant conifer with a graceful, narrowly pyramidal habit which makes it a good choice for an evergreen urban or street tree. P. omorika is also noted for its short drooping branches with upward curving tips and for its glossy needles.
